Bio

Ninth Street Mission is Adam Chimera, Quinn Raymond, Namrata Tripathi, and Karl Ward. One day we’ll be the greatest band in New York City. Until then, please bear with us.

Most of our songs are original, rich with 3-part harmonies, guitars, piano, organ, banjo, drums, and electric bass. Everyone in the band has been writing and playing music for at least 10 or 15 years.

Some of our loves include My Morning Jacket, Yo La Tengo, Sonic Youth, Jeff Buckley, Ray Charles, Kool Keith, Jimi Hendrix, Gillian Welch, El-P, the Band, Sufjan Stevens, Warren Zevon, the Cure, DJ Shadow, the Evens, the B-52′s, Kings of Convenience, and the Wu-Tang Clan. Our music doesn’t really sound like any of that.

We loathe the hip but love the unique. Our name comes from the street where half of us live, and from the idea that a band should have a social conscience that extends beyond self-righteous and incoherent on-stage diatribes. Most of our shows are fundraisers for good causes. We are socially progressive but physically conservative, which means that we are strict adherents of the Newtonian model.
